SEC - Digital Skilling for the Students
Social Media and Students
Introduction
Social media has become an integral
part of students’ personal, academic, professional and social lives. It offers
opportunities for communication, creativity, learning, networking and
self-expression. At the same time, irresponsible or excessive use of social
media can create serious challenges related to online harassment, digital
footprints, misinformation, addiction, privacy, financial sustainability and
road safety.
This activity is designed to help
students move beyond simply using social media to becoming responsible,
critical and reflective digital citizens.
Students will watch five short videos
dealing with different dimensions of digital and social-media culture. After
watching each video, students will write a reflective blog that connects the
ideas presented in the video with their own experiences, choices and
responsibilities.
